How to Graph Linear Equations and Determine Their Intersection Point?

AI Thread Summary
To graph the equations y=x-2 and y=4-x, first determine the coordinates for specific x-values, such as x=0 and x=2. Plot these points for each equation to create straight lines. The intersection point can be found by setting the two equations equal to each other and solving for x. After finding the x-coordinate of the intersection, substitute it back into either equation to find the corresponding y-coordinate. This process allows for both graphical and algebraic determination of the intersection point.

Could someone please explain how to graph y=x-2 and y=4-x
and find the coordinates of the point of intersection.

If the coördinates are the same, then surely the y-values are.
Let both expressions for y in terms of x equal and solve for x.

y= x-2

If x= 0, what is y?

If x= 2, what is y?

can you plot those two (x,y) points?

Since the graph of y= x- 2 is a straight line just draw the line between those two points.

Now do exactly the same thing using y= 4- x
If x= 0, what is y?
If x= 2, what is y?

Plot those two (x,y) points and draw the line through them.

Where do those two line cross?

do I use y=mx+b?

How would I find out what y equals?

Where you able to find the two points HallsofIvy asked you to?
He was guiding you to the interesection points of the axis, allowing you to graph the line.
Then, you can graphically find the coördinates of the point of intersection.

If you need to find it algebraically, did you understand my suggestion?

You said you were given y=x-2 and y=4-x. Why not use them?

How do you find out what y equals? Do the arithemetic! What do you think "y= x- 2" means?

Thread 'Video on imaginary numbers and some queries'
Hi, I was watching the following video. I found some points confusing. Could you please help me to understand the gaps? Thanks, in advance! Question 1: Around 4:22, the video says the following. So for those mathematicians, negative numbers didn't exist. You could subtract, that is find the difference between two positive quantities, but you couldn't have a negative answer or negative coefficients. Mathematicians were so averse to negative numbers that there was no single quadratic...
Insights auto threads is broken atm, so I'm manually creating these for new Insight articles. In Dirac’s Principles of Quantum Mechanics published in 1930 he introduced a “convenient notation” he referred to as a “delta function” which he treated as a continuum analog to the discrete Kronecker delta. The Kronecker delta is simply the indexed components of the identity operator in matrix algebra Source: https://www.physicsforums.com/insights/what-exactly-is-diracs-delta-function/ by...
Thread 'Unit Circle Double Angle Derivations'
Here I made a terrible mistake of assuming this to be an equilateral triangle and set 2sinx=1 => x=pi/6. Although this did derive the double angle formulas it also led into a terrible mess trying to find all the combinations of sides. I must have been tired and just assumed 6x=180 and 2sinx=1. By that time, I was so mindset that I nearly scolded a person for even saying 90-x. I wonder if this is a case of biased observation that seeks to dis credit me like Jesus of Nazareth since in reality...
