This context helps others offer relevant insights on academic programs, resumes, interviews, and job opportunities, which can differ significantly by country. For instance, a US citizen with a PhD seeking a postdoc in Germany would benefit from advice specific to German universities. Hi, I'm a relatively new member of PF. I have a suggestion for posters in the Career Guidance Subforum. If you need advice concerning further academic schooling or concerning careers, please specify what country you are in now, in what country (or countries) you have previously studied or worked, and in what country (or countries) you plan to pursue further academic training or a career.

Sometimes this info is available in a poster's profile, sometimes it is not. Regardless, you are more likely to receive relevant advice if you supply pertinent info. Relevant advice on topics such as academic programs, resumes, interviews, and career opportunities vary significantly from country to country.

So, for example, if you're a US citizen with a PhD in physics from a US university seeking a postdoc with a university in Germany, you need advice from someone familiar with German universities. Similarly, if you're a Chinese citizen with a PhD from a Canadian university seeking a job with a US company, you need advice from someone familiar with US companies. And the options available to you will likely depend on your citizenship and previous universities.

Great suggestion! Some members do add their general location in their profile too.

Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
So lately, my interest in the realm of optics/optoelectronics/photonics engineering has grown and I have started to seriously consider pursuing a career in the field. I have done a bit of career research and also have done some learning on the side to gather more knowledge on these topics. However, I have some questions on what a career in these fields would look like, and I wanted to find out more about this area to know what I would be getting myself into if I did make the choice to pursue...
