AI Thread Summary
For a second telescope within the £100-£200 range, users recommend considering the Sky-Watcher Dobsonian models, specifically the Skyliner 150P and the Skyliner 200, with the latter being a preferred option for a slightly higher investment. Dobsonian telescopes are praised for their suitability as starter scopes due to their ease of use and performance. Additionally, 8" and 6" catadioptric telescopes are mentioned as good alternatives, available on eBay, with a caution against larger sizes due to portability concerns. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of balancing quality and portability in selecting a second telescope. This guidance helps ensure a rewarding stargazing experience.

An 8" cat is a very good scope. Can be had for under 2k on ebay. A 6" cat can often be had for under 1k on ebay. I would advise against going over 8" due to portability issues.

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Thread 'Could gamma-ray bursts have an intragalactic origin?'
This is indirectly evidenced by a map of the distribution of gamma-ray bursts in the night sky, made in the form of an elongated globe. And also the weakening of gamma radiation by the disk and the center of the Milky Way, which leads to anisotropy in the possibilities of observing gamma-ray bursts. My line of reasoning is as follows: 1. Gamma radiation should be absorbed to some extent by dust and other components of the interstellar medium. As a result, with an extragalactic origin, fewer...
