How can I know which enters yield bar first?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on determining which of two bars, AD or BE, reaches yield stress first under a given load. Both bars have equal cross-sectional areas and elastic moduli, with a yield stress of 250 MPa. The user attempts to apply the formula Delta = PL/(AE) and equilibrium equations to analyze the problem. However, the lack of clarity in the problem statement and definitions of variables hinders effective assistance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of yield stress and plastic behavior in materials
  • Familiarity with basic mechanics of materials concepts
  • Knowledge of equilibrium equations in structural analysis
  • Proficiency in using deformation formulas such as Delta = PL/(AE)
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of yield stress and its implications in structural engineering
  • Study the mechanics of materials, focusing on elastic and plastic deformation
  • Learn about equilibrium equations and their application in multi-bar systems
  • Explore compatibility conditions in structural analysis for determining deformations
USEFUL FOR

Students and professionals in civil and mechanical engineering, particularly those studying structural analysis and material behavior under load.

Homework Equations

Area AD = Area BE

E(AD) =E (BE)

Yield stress = 250 MPa[/B]

The Attempt at a Solution

Delta= PL/(AE) if in both bars the A and E are the same, and from the equilibrium I get Q= 4.125 F(AD) + F(BE) , also from the compatibility I get delta AD = 4.125 delta BE[/B]

Or how can I know which bar will reach a perfectly plastic behavior first?

@Queren Suriano, you didn't include a statement of the problem, so we have no idea what you're trying to do or what the symbols mean. AD looks like it would be a line segement, but what is Area AD? And what is E(AD)? What is a yield bar? You have not provided enough information for us to be able to help you.
