AI Thread Summary
To unsubscribe from a thread, users can access their subscribed threads through the quick links and select the desired thread using the checkbox. After selecting, they should scroll down to change the subscription type or remove it entirely. Additionally, users can adjust their email notification settings by clicking on the "My PF" link, then "Edit Options," and selecting "No email notification" in the Default Thread Subscription Mode section. This will prevent any email notifications for threads they participate in. Adjusting these settings effectively reduces unwanted email notifications.

I now consider the emails I get from the "Who wants to be a mathematician thread spam" as it seems I get 2-3 per day. Is there a way that I can unsubscribe from this thread, if so how?

If view your subscribed threads from the quick links on the top right bar you will see there is a check box next to the subscribed threads. check the thread you want then scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a drop down menu with several options for changing the subscription type or removing altogether.

Click on My PF link (top left). Then click on Edit Options. You will see a section titled "Default Thread Subscription Mode". If you do not want any e-mail notification of the threads that you have participated in (and thus, subscribe to), choose the "No email notification" option from the dropbox, and you're done.

You may also want to turn off automatically subscribing to threads you've replied in, or delete that particular one from your list of subscribed threads so you don't get updates of any kind on that one.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
