Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility and cost of setting up an entanglement experiment at home. Participants explore whether such experiments can be conducted outside of a traditional laboratory setting and what resources might be required.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the possibility of conducting an entanglement experiment at home and inquires about the associated costs and the necessity of a lab environment.
  • Another participant suggests that while some photon-based experiments could potentially be done at home, they would still be quite expensive, estimating costs comparable to that of a new car.
  • A participant humorously claims to conduct an at-home entanglement experiment using extension cords, implying a more informal approach to the concept.
  • Another participant makes a light-hearted remark about having an entanglement experiment involving "heartstrings," indicating a playful interpretation of the term "entanglement."

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying views on the feasibility of home experiments, with some suggesting it is possible while others highlight the costs involved. The discussion includes both serious and humorous takes on the concept, indicating a lack of consensus on practical implementation.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not provide specific details on the technical requirements or limitations of the proposed experiments, leaving open questions about the necessary equipment and conditions for successful entanglement experiments.

Is it possible to set up an in house entanglement experiment? Would you need to carry out the experiment in a lab and is it costly?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to PF;
You could probably do some of the photon ones at home but it would be expensive.
Off the top of my head - about as expensive as a new car?

There is nothing particularly special about a physics lab - it's just someone's basement normally.
What you have basically asked is what it would cost to set up a minimal entanglement lab ;)

I have an at home entanglement experiment every couple of weeks involving a couple of 100ft extension cords.

... good point: I have one involving heartstrings ... those can be very expensive indeed, and often require specialized equipment.
