How Do Energy Flow Control Systems Work?

Click For Summary
Energy flow control systems utilize electrical signals to manage energy distribution, commonly seen in applications like sewing machine motors controlled by foot-operated variable resistors. The discussion suggests using block diagrams for clarity in explaining these systems. It highlights that all control systems have inefficiencies, consuming a portion of energy in the process. The conversation emphasizes the importance of clearly presenting the operation and limitations of these systems. Understanding these factors is crucial for a comprehensive analysis of energy flow control systems.

An energy flow control system is one where electrical signals are used to control the flow of energy. quite often electrical energy. A modern example of one such system is the manual control of the speed of a sewing machine motor by way of a foot opearated variable resistor and switching semiconductor device. Analyse and discuss the operation of such a system.

Would I be best explaining this system using a network type of diagram or should I do it some other way. Any suggestions on what I should talk about would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what level your talk is at.

I prefer block diagram presentations.

You might mention that all such control systems are imperfect and that they consumer a fractio of the energy themselves.

I am trying to understand how transferring electric from the powerplant to my house is more effective using high voltage. The suggested explanation that the current is equal to the power supply divided by the voltage, and hence higher voltage leads to lower current and as a result to a lower power loss on the conductives is very confusing me. I know that the current is determined by the voltage and the resistance, and not by a power capability - which defines a limit to the allowable...
