AI Thread Summary
To combine measurement uncertainties, add the squares of the absolute uncertainties and take the square root of the sum. This method applies when both uncertainties are random and independent. The result will provide the absolute uncertainty of the measurement. To find the percentage uncertainty, divide the absolute uncertainty by the measurement value and multiply by 100. This process ensures accurate representation of the overall uncertainty in measurements.

i have a measurement which has random uncertainty of 0.02 and scale reading 0.01. how do i combine these uncertainties - add in quadrature the percentage uncertainty or the absolute uncertainty? and does this give the percentage uncertainty or the absolute uncertainty of my measurement?

thanks
