How do I stop email notifications of subscribed thread activity?

AI Thread Summary
To stop email notifications for subscribed thread activity, users can adjust their settings in the profile under "Edit Options," specifically in the messaging and notifications section. Changes will only apply to future threads, so existing subscriptions will still generate emails until manually unsubscribed. Users can unsubscribe from individual threads via the "Thread Tools" menu. Additionally, it is possible to resubscribe to threads with the notification type set to "No email notification." For bulk management, users can change the subscription type for multiple threads at once or remove all subscriptions, though this will affect their control panel visibility.

My PF, settings and options, edit options, scroll to messaging and notifications.

Be aware that once you change the settings, they are only applied to future threads that you post in or subscribe to. Existing subscribed threads will still generate email.

When you get an email about a previously-subscribed thread, you can go to the thread and click:
Thread Tools
Unsubscribe from this thread
Voila! No more email messages -- for that thread.

Then, if you want you may resubscribe -- so that the thread still appears in https://www.physicsforums.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&folderid=all
Thread Tools
Subscribe to this thread
Notification Type: No email notification (should be default)
Folder: Subscriptions (should be default)
and click Add Subscription
You'll basically have to keep doing this to individual threads for a while, but the frequency of doing this will decrease as older threads seldom get posted to.

You can change the subscription type for threads in groups of 40 https://www.physicsforums.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription : Check the upper right box (in the header of the table, this checks all threads on that page), and change the subscription type (below the table) to "no email notification".

You can remove all subscriptions at once, too, but then you don't have them in the control panel any more.

Wish I'd known about that 4 years ago

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
