How Do Tire Sizes Affect Car Speed at Constant RPM?

AI Thread Summary
To determine the speed of a car at a constant RPM, the diameter of the tire is essential. The formula involves calculating the circumference of the tire and using it to find the linear speed at a given RPM. For the cars mentioned, the tire diameters are 26.16 inches for the Ford Taurus, 26.18 inches for the Chevy Camaro, and 28.04 inches for the Dodge Dakota. The tire type does not impact the speed calculation directly, as the key factor is the tire diameter. Understanding these relationships allows for accurate speed estimations based on tire size and RPM.

Hello. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem. You'll probably think it is easy, but oh well .

begin to explore aspects of angular velocity/and linear velocity and how tires affect them.

Car Type Tire Type Tire Diameter-inches
Ford Taurus 215/60-16 26.16
Chevy Camaro 235/55-16 26.18
Dodge Dakota 255/55-17 28.04

#1. Find the speed of each car in mph when the wheels are turning at 800rpm.

Ok, my question is what formula do I use that includes the Tire type?

thanks

You'll need to use the diameters given to find the speed of the outer edge of the wheel at 800rpm. I don't think you need to know the tire types. In fact I don't have a clue what the tire type means, but I can figure out the speeds of those cars!

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
