How much Knowledge about science and math has changed since Einstein?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the evolution of knowledge in science and mathematics since the death of Albert Einstein, approximately 60 years ago. Participants explore various discoveries and concepts that have emerged in these fields that would have been unknown to Einstein.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants mention significant discoveries such as quarks and the standard model of particle physics, cosmic microwave background radiation, and the accelerating expansion of the universe.
  • Others highlight the discovery of the Higgs boson and the concept of Einstein-Bose condensate as new states of matter.
  • Bell's theorem and experiments related to entangled particles are also noted as advancements in physics that extend beyond Einstein's work.
  • Neutrino oscillation and the discovery of exoplanets are mentioned as additional areas of development in science and astronomy.
  • Participants suggest looking at recent Nobel Prizes in science for further insights into advancements since Einstein's time.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the existence of significant advancements in science and mathematics since Einstein, but there is no consensus on a comprehensive list of discoveries or their implications.

Contextual Notes

Some claims depend on specific definitions of knowledge and may not encompass all relevant discoveries. The discussion does not resolve the implications of these advancements on Einstein's theories.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be of interest to those studying the history of science, physics enthusiasts, and individuals curious about the evolution of scientific knowledge post-Einstein.

This is a question about how much general knowledge about science and math has changed since Einstein's death about 60 years ago. What are some ideas in math and science that have been discovered that Einstein would have had no knowledge of?

THis may help answer your question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_scientific_discoveries

WHat sticks out is:
- quarks and the standard model
- discovery of CMB radiation
- discovery of Einstein-Bose condensate fifth state of matter
- accelerating expansion of the universe
- Higgs boson discovery
...
