SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the relevance of 1960s solenoid design principles in modern applications. Participants emphasize that while electromagnetic (E&M) principles remain unchanged, advancements in materials science and manufacturing techniques have significantly evolved. Key areas of focus include core materials and geometry, which are critical for optimizing solenoid performance today. The consensus is that while foundational knowledge from the 1960s is valuable, contemporary resources are essential for current design practices.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic principles, particularly solenoid operation.
  • Familiarity with core materials used in solenoid design, such as ferrites and laminated steel.
  • Knowledge of geometric considerations in solenoid design, including coil winding and core shape.
  • Awareness of modern manufacturing techniques that impact solenoid efficiency.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research contemporary materials used in solenoid construction, focusing on advancements since the 1960s.
  • Explore modern solenoid design software tools for simulation and optimization.
  • Investigate current best practices in solenoid geometry for improved performance.
  • Study recent publications and case studies on solenoid applications in various industries.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some references on solenoid design - core materials, geometry, etc etc etc. Can anyone suggest me some canonical references that I should check out? All the books I've found are from the 60s or so.

Thanks!

Why do you think things have changed that much since the 1960's? E&M is still E&M.
