How to adjust the visibility of one's last activity?

AI Thread Summary
Members can adjust the visibility of their last activity by changing settings found at the provided link. Some users, even without a gold membership, have their "last seen" status hidden, possibly due to past settings that remain after their gold membership ends. There is inconsistency in visibility among accounts, as some members can see activity while others cannot. The forum rules state that only one account per person is allowed. Understanding these settings can help users manage their privacy effectively.

Some members have their last activity information hidden to other members (it's the "xxx was last seen:" information in the box which pops up when you click on someone's name). How can I adjust this setting?

Physics news on Phys.org
https://www.physicsforums.com/account/upgrades can switch the display setting.

But I have seen some non-gold members have their "last seen" activity hidden and some other let it visible.

They might have switched it in the past, settings stay as they are at the end of gold membership.

Actually I have another account in this forum and people can't see what I was just doing. It's not a gold membership and I don't remember setting anything during the account registration to make my "last seen" info invisible. On the other hand, this very account I use to post this thread let anyone see where I was last seen.

A note to anyone stumbling on this thread: PF rules only allow one account per person.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
