SUMMARY

To effectively create a laser that burns paper, utilizing multiple convex lenses can enhance the focus and intensity of the beam. However, using a combination of one convex lens, one concave lens, and another convex lens is not recommended as it complicates the focal point and may not yield the desired burning effect. For practical purposes, using sunlight with a magnifying glass is a more accessible and cost-effective method. High-powered lasers capable of burning paper are typically prohibitively expensive, often exceeding thousands of dollars.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of optical principles, specifically lens types and their functions.
  • Familiarity with laser technology and its power requirements.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols when working with lasers.
  • Basic physics concepts related to light and focus.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and applications of convex and concave lenses.
  • Learn about the safety measures for handling high-powered lasers.
  • Explore the physics of light focusing and its practical applications.
  • Investigate alternative methods for burning paper using sunlight and magnification techniques.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for hobbyists interested in optics, physics students exploring laser applications, and anyone looking for safe methods to burn paper using focused light.

I want to make a laser to burn paper so if i use 2 or 3 convex lenses with a laser will it be helpful . Or can i use 1convex then 1 concave and then 1convex to make it

Why would you use a concave one?

Welcome to the PF.

You should probably just stick with using sunlight and a magnifying glass. A laser with enough power to start burning a spot on paper would cost many thousands of dollars. If you are in university, you may be able to ask the appropriate physics professor for a tour of the laser lab...
