Where does charge come from.....
nobody really knows, anymore than we know why charge is quantized....you can get a synopsis of what we do know here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_charge

but it does not explain the origin of charge. Once here, it's conserved, but why it's here is unknown as is the magnitude. We can decribe charge characteristics and make predictions about outcomes, but no generally accepted answer exists as to the origin...exept that everything popped out of a bang...big or otherwise....

The reason why we have charge, or mass, or the forms of energy we do..kinetic,potential,etc... or the speed of light, or space and time, are unknown.
One answer is that all these physical entities are rather precariously balanced, so in other universes where some of the entities were substantially different, life (we) could not exist, because for example, such a universe could never forms stars, planets, atoms, etc.

They are all related (mass, charge, energy...)

The Universe we live within started at the Big Bang. Therefore, At the start, time = 0, all the forces of Nature were one. Therefore it is safe to say, all the properties were the same.

This is why we can have a "unifying theory of everything".
