Impact of Jet Experiment: Error & Effects

Click For Summary
The discussion focuses on the impact of small measurement errors in a jet experiment, specifically regarding jockey weight, distance from the vane center to the pivot point, and nozzle diameter. It concludes that these errors, being minimal, can be considered negligible in their effect on calculated values. Participants encourage further elaboration or rewording of the original post to generate more responses. The conversation highlights the importance of precision in experimental setups while acknowledging that minor discrepancies may not significantly alter outcomes. Overall, the consensus is that small errors in measurement have a limited impact on the results of the experiment.

Homework Statement

What would be the effect of calculated value if:
a. Jockey weight is in error by 1 g?
b. Distance from vane center to pivot point is in error by 1 mm?
c. diameter of nozzle 0.1mm different from actual nozzle diameter.

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

as the error is too small, the effect can be neglect.

Thanks for the post! Sorry you aren't generating responses at the moment. Do you have any further information, come to any new conclusions or is it possible to reword the post?

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
