AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around Condoleezza Rice's statement on "Meet the Press" regarding the Chinese character for crisis, which embodies both danger and opportunity. This concept was previously popularized by Al Gore in "An Inconvenient Truth." The conversation reflects on the implications of this idea, suggesting that the White House may be adopting a more rational perspective. There is a humorous acknowledgment of the challenge in using Gore's phrase now that it has been echoed by a prominent figure in the current administration, raising questions about the authenticity of the idea and its origins.

When I heard Condi say this on Meet the Press

I kept thinking how I had just heard this recently for the first time. Now where did I hear that... hmmm... oh yes, I remember, it comes from Al Gore and his "Inconvenient Truth" !

GORE: Well, you know, there's an old cliche about the way the Chinese write the word "crisis." They have two symbols back to back. The first means danger, and the second means opportunity.

Would that be Chinese influence?

damn it Gore, now I'll never be able to respectably use that line again...

What's more, now that we've heard it from the White House, can we still be sure that it's true?

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
