AI Thread Summary
Open University (OU) is recognized globally for its quality education, particularly in its Science and Mathematics departments, which are regarded as top-tier in the UK. The institution has contributed to significant projects, including the British and EU Mars explorations. However, there are mixed opinions regarding the rigor of its mathematics courses. Some discussions suggest that the courses may be perceived as simple and easily passable, raising questions about their intensity and academic challenge. Overall, while OU is esteemed for its academic offerings, potential students should consider the varying perceptions of course difficulty when evaluating its mathematics programs.

I am curious about the level of rigorousness and intenseness the mathematics courses hold. A post on Google Groups described OU as being simple and easily passable.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
