AI Thread Summary
The external magnetic plane of an NMR is denoted as B_0_. There is a debate on its pronunciation, with some preferring "B zero" while others consider "B initial" to be correct. The consensus leans towards "B zero" as the more commonly accepted term. Clarification on this pronunciation can help avoid confusion in discussions about NMR terminology. Understanding the correct pronunciation enhances communication in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance.

Hi Ajeezy!

I always pronounce it "B zero".

Thanks tiny tim. I felt that b initial was right but I've been reading into and b zero or b sub zero seems correct. Thanks again

It may be shown from the equations of electromagnetism, by James Clerk Maxwell in the 1860’s, that the speed of light in the vacuum of free space is related to electric permittivity (ϵ) and magnetic permeability (μ) by the equation: c=1/√( μ ϵ ) . This value is a constant for the vacuum of free space and is independent of the motion of the observer. It was this fact, in part, that led Albert Einstein to Special Relativity.
