[tex]\nabla[/tex]sU = [tex]\nabla[/tex]U - n*(n [tex]\bullet[/tex] [tex]\nabla[/tex]U)

...the correct equation for the surface gradient given [tex]\nabla[/tex]U is the gradient of the surface and n is the normal unit vector?
