too much time...

A blue beam of light.

Okay, really it was the quality of the members and the level of discussion found here. I looked at a lot of sites before landing at PF.

The intelligence, humor, and friendliness of the members.

And the free fish. :-p

...and the fish.

Divine inspiration...wait, no, I was following this trail of breadcrumbs...nope, not it either...oh, right, there was a link somewhere to a post here...well, not exactly here, but over there, in one of the other forums...the rest, as they say, is history.

Some crazy Brit found me wandering around in PF following a Google and aimed me down here. Once I met Evo and Moonbear and SOS and MIH and Hypatia, I couldn't leave. (Oh, there are a couple of guys around here that I get along with pretty well too.)

What can I say?

I'm a nerd.

General intelligence level of the discussion, the fact that the discussions are lively and the forums are always populated, the ability to learn new things and more perspectives on old objects and, of course, boredom.

Always populated my arse. Any idea how often I'm in here at 4 in the morning, talking to myself?

It was 3 years ago, there was some odd conjunction of planets. I did a search for information and it led me here..or should I say there{it was the first forum}.
In my life my friends are of all ages, much like here. It keeps things interesting.

I was originally majoring in physics 1-2 years ago, so I joined. I have no clue how I found the forums: I probably just searched physics forums and came up with it.

Welcome to PF Zygotic Embryo!

Sorry, I'm slow.

I can't remember now... Nah, it hasn't been so many posts ago - Why I remember it just like it was yesterday.

I was frolicking on the Internet and saw an interesting topic, and clicked on it, and lo and behold, I went through a tunnel toward this bright light--intelligent posts from all the world, funny posts from the most demented, and...of course...fish! Fish!?

Yes, welcome to PF Zygotic Embryo!

89% of new members polled said they joined for the fish.

That was the brain child of The Bob. :approve:

I felt like the only one who likes Science and Math, so I had to find out if this was true.

I was wrong. :D

I searched for a math/physics community to inspire me in my newly found engineering path. All the hippies and socialists, errr... I mean social scientists, in my other uni didn't exactly help.

  • #35
i t was the first site in the list when i googled for physics forums.

and also othert forums were full of crap.

  • #36
I googled it as well.

I've actually been around since March of 2003 as a guest, but didn't sign up until December of that year. But that seemed so long ago...

I don't think I will ever be able to find the thread but it was one in the theory development section that my friend showed me that made me join. I wanted to be able to reply to it and then I found out about all the sections and I must have learned more here than books could ever have taught be (well too a point. Books are good but human explanation is better).

I actually came in through the Michio Kaku forums. Later I started taking an astronomy class so I wandered into other sections. I seem to be stuck in GD now. It's like flypaper.

That's just because Artman's been here. We should warn ZE about wiping things off before using them.

setAI mentioned this place over in the KurzweilAI.net forum (which is really bad... really really bad).

But I stayed for all the beautiful women.

Honestly I can't remember the specifics. I joined this forum - at least the original incarnation of this forum - a little was over 1/5th of my life ago. I was a physics and math geek at the time, but that is as precise as I can get.

Maybe you need to post a picture of you in your dress; show off those curves a little more often.

We're appealing to a broad market.

Honestly now, if there was a foldout of smurf in a dress, you wouldn't look? :-p

Everyone is possessed of a modicum of morbid curiosity, but there's a significant difference between looking and enjoying.

I was inspired to join this forum because I was working on a problem.

  • #50
I joined because I was in wayyyy over my head working on an industrial design project and needed some help with hydraulics. The tight buggers never gave me a reply (yeah, I'm still waiting guys...).

Anyway, I got sucked in and have spent the last 6 months getting in the way, correcting myths on the English and spreading myths about the Welsh, whilst squeezing every bit of available knowledge out of Clausius and Fred, talking utter bollocks to Moonbear, and enticing Danger into the den. Happy days.
