Kinematics Homework Question- Deriving an expression

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a physics homework problem related to kinematics, specifically the equations of motion. The original poster expresses difficulty in starting the problem and seeks guidance on using the five equations of motion. Respondents suggest beginning with the equations for position as a function of acceleration and initial velocity, emphasizing the need to derive a time-independent solution. They recommend using the equation of trajectory for horizontal projectiles and finding an equation for time to substitute into other equations. The focus is on deriving the initial horizontal velocity from the kinematic equations.

Use equation of trajectory for horizontal projectile

Start with kinematic equations for position as a function of acceleration and initial velocity. Since the problem does not specify a time of flight, you must solve these equations to be time-independent. Essentially, just find an equation for ##t## and plug it into the other equation and solve for the initial horizontal velocity.
