AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the decision-making process for a student in Trinidad and Tobago regarding when to leave school to pursue university abroad. The student is considering whether to stay until completing the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or to leave after obtaining the CSEC certificate, which is the minimum requirement for university applications. It is suggested that the student should ideally wait until receiving acceptance into a specific university program before making a decision about leaving school. The conversation also touches on the possibility of traveling or working abroad as an alternative to immediate university enrollment.

hello everyone, I have a question. I live in Trinidad and Tobago which has the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE) system. I really want to attend university abroad, but I do not know when I should leave school. Do I stay until I actually write CAPE or do I leave as soon as I get my CSEC certificate (which is the only requirement).

While I'm not familiar with either of those certifications, it's best to wait until you're accepted into a particular university program. Unless of course you simply want to travel and/or work abroad.

Or are you asking at which point you should apply abroad?

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
