not sure why you think the Earth's magnetic has a direct infulence ?

But regardless the air moves violently ... you have heard thunder ? :)

The air particles are ionized which carry out the lightning bold that we see.

if air moves violently, this principle can be used in practical..as "magnetoaerodynamic engine"
