Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of rapidity in the context of Lorentz transformations and its relationship to the relative angle between two reference frames. Participants explore the mathematical connections and implications of these concepts.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant proposes that if tanh(Fi) = v/c, then the relative angle of two frames in the context of Lorentz Transformation could be expressed as tan(theta) = tanh(Fi) = v/c.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on what is meant by the "relative angle," indicating a need for further explanation.
  • A subsequent reply suggests a mathematical relationship where the relative angle can be expressed as θ_{21} = θ_{20} - θ_{10}.
  • There is a repeated request for clarification regarding the term "relative angle," with a participant attempting to define it as the angle between the frames.
  • One participant attempts to clarify that they are referring to the mathematical connection between rapidity and the angle of two frames, although they express uncertainty about the clarity of this explanation.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the definition and implications of the "relative angle," indicating that multiple interpretations and uncertainties remain in the discussion.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations in the clarity of definitions and the mathematical connections being discussed, as well as unresolved questions about the meaning of "relative angle" in this context.

Concerning Rapidity, if tanh(Fi) = v/c, can it be concluded in general that the relative angle of two frames in combination with Lorentz Transformation is tan(theta) = tanh(Fi) = v/c, where theta is the relative angle?

What do you mean by the "relative angle"?

Yes,
[itex]\theta_{21} = \theta_{20}-\theta_{10}[/itex].

I meants relative angle of the frames.

That's what you said but what does it mean?

Simply the math connection between rapidity and the angle of two frames, not sure if this is clear?
