Magnetic field intensity problem

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the correct formulation of the differential length element (dl) in the context of magnetic field intensity in electromagnetic theory. The participants clarify that the correct expression should be dl = (l/N) dz rather than dl = (N/l) dz. The magnetic field intensity (H) is defined in units of amp-turns per meter (A.m-1), and the relationship between current (I), pitch (n), and the number of turns (N) is established as n = N/l.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory concepts
  • Familiarity with magnetic field intensity and its units
  • Knowledge of differential calculus in physics
  • Basic principles of coil design and pitch calculation
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the derivation of magnetic field intensity equations in electromagnetic theory
  • Learn about the relationship between current, pitch, and number of turns in coil design
  • Explore the applications of magnetic field intensity in practical electromagnetic systems
  • Review advanced topics in electromagnetic field theory, such as Maxwell's equations
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students of electromagnetic theory, electrical engineers, and anyone involved in designing or analyzing electromagnetic systems and coils.

Hi everyone here, hope you enjoying this summer ..

i'm taking ' elements of electromagnetic ' course this summer session and i just have a little question here

in the yellow shaded statement

shouldn't it be dl = (l/N) dz instead of dl=(N/l) dz ?

By the way, it's not a HW question .

Thanks

The magnetic field H (or magnetic moment density) is measured in units of amp-turns per metre (A.m-1) …

current (I) times pitch (n), ie current times number-of-turns per length

n is the pitch, N is the number of turns, l is the length: n = N/l
