AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding methods to convert MIDI files into MP3 format, with users sharing their experiences and suggestions. Several participants note that while many MIDI files are available for free, the legality of downloading them is often unclear. It is mentioned that most MIDI programs can convert MIDI to WAV format, which is a necessary step before burning to CD, especially since the user's current software, Roxio, does not support WAV files. Recommendations include using SoundForge or MusicMatch for conversions. Participants express frustration over Roxio's limitations, suggesting that users might need to consider alternative CD burning software that can handle WAV files directly. Overall, the conversation emphasizes the need for effective tools to convert and burn MIDI files while addressing sound quality concerns associated with MIDI formats.

Does anyone know of a program or method to translate MIDI files into MP3 format? There are a number of freeware or shareware MIDI sites that don't mention the legality of downloading a file, so I assume that it is legal. There are some really great MIDI conversions out there but the program I have for burning CDs (Roxio) doesn't support anything like this.

Any suggestions?

soundforge or of you want the whole package try musicmatch at www.musicmatch.com. It's free

MIDI files generally output low-res tinny sounds. I find them handy for composing music (and also their extraordinary small size). But for casual listening, I tend to just find a recording of the song in MP3 format. Much better in terms of sound quality

If you do want to put MIDIs on a CD, id take chroot's suggestion and convert the MIDI to Wav. I have the Roxio CD burner (Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum Edition), and it won't accept Wav files. Because of that, convert the .wav file into .mp3 format, then burn it on the CD.

What a piece of crap! A CD burning program that won't let you burn WAVs to CD-DA? CD-DA *is* WAV!

Perhaps you should get another CD burning program...

You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...

I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
