Millitary Standard for Small Water Craft, Navy, Marines

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the structural design standards for mounting components on small Naval and Marine watercraft, specifically Zodiac-style boats. Participants note the inadequacy of existing military standards like Mil-STD-810 and Mil-STD-167 for small boat design. A recommended resource for further information is the DLA's quick search tool, which provides extensive documentation on relevant criteria. Users are encouraged to explore the search results for comprehensive insights into the standards applicable to small watercraft.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Mil-STD-810 and Mil-STD-167 standards
  • Familiarity with structural design principles for marine applications
  • Knowledge of vibration and load criteria for small vessels
  • Access to DLA's documentation and quick search tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Research specific structural design standards for small watercraft
  • Explore the DLA quick search tool for military standards related to boats
  • Investigate vibration and load testing methodologies for marine applications
  • Review case studies on component mounting in Zodiac-style boats
USEFUL FOR

Naval engineers, marine designers, and military personnel involved in the design and maintenance of small watercraft will benefit from this discussion.

I curious if anyone out there knows what structural design standards are used when mounting components onto small Naval and Marine (Zodiac) style watercraft. I can find all kinds of loads and vibration criteria for large ships like Mil-std-810 and Mil-std-167 but all of them specify not to use their criteria for small boat design. Any help would be much appreciated.

Go to https://assist.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/quicksearch_query.cfm and enter "boat". Should turn up just about everything you could imagine! LOL!

Thanks Bob K, that webpage really helps. I think it will take me a couple days to sift through all that comes up when I type in "boat" but I am hoping what I am looking for is in there LoL!
