Mission: Impossible - The Movie

In summary, the movie Mission: Impossible features several scenes with examples of good and bad physics, such as the helicopter in the tunnel, the water restaurant, and Tom Cruise's attempt to steal the NOC list in the CIA office. Other notable examples include Cruise's use of a broken light bulb to enhance his hearing and the elevator scene in the beginning.

Mission: Impossible -- The Movie

i am currently working on a summer assignment that involves me finding 2 examples of good and bad physics and back it up with concepts/laws.

The movie i was given was Mission Impossible. The scenes i think have physics are when the helicopter is in the tunnel, the water restaurant, and when tom cruise goes to steal the NOC list in the CIA office.

Any help would be appreciated. thnx :!)

There are a few little things. Like when cruise breaks that light bulb under his coat and sprinkles the shards over the floor so he can hear the footsteps of something approaching better. There's also that elevator scene in the beginning.

Hello! It's great to hear that you are exploring physics through the lens of popular media. It's important to note that while movies like Mission: Impossible can be entertaining and thrilling, they may not always accurately portray scientific concepts. With that being said, let's take a look at the scenes you mentioned.

First, the helicopter scene in the tunnel. This scene involves a helicopter flying through a narrow tunnel, dodging obstacles and narrowly avoiding collisions. While it may seem impressive, in reality, it would be nearly impossible for a helicopter to maneuver in such a confined space. Helicopters require a significant amount of space to maneuver and the aerodynamics of the tunnel would make it difficult to control the helicopter. Additionally, the force of the rotors could potentially damage the tunnel walls, causing the helicopter to crash. This scene is a good example of bad physics, as it is highly unrealistic.

Next, the water restaurant scene. This scene involves Tom Cruise's character diving into a water tank to retrieve a key. While the concept of diving and swimming underwater is based on real physics, the way it is portrayed in the movie is not entirely accurate. In reality, a person diving into water from a significant height would experience a large amount of drag force, which could cause injury upon impact with the water. Additionally, the water tank in the movie appears to be much deeper than it realistically would be, making it easier for Tom Cruise's character to swim and retrieve the key. This scene is an example of good physics in terms of the concept of diving and swimming, but it is not entirely accurate in its execution.

Finally, the scene where Tom Cruise's character sneaks into the CIA office to steal the NOC list. This scene involves him using a harness and cables to navigate through the room while avoiding laser beams. While the concept of using harnesses and cables to navigate through a room is based on real physics, the execution in the movie is not entirely accurate. The cables would need to be placed at specific angles and tension in order for Tom Cruise's character to successfully maneuver through the room without setting off the lasers. Additionally, the weight of the character and the tension of the cables would also play a role in this scenario. This scene is a good example of bad physics, as it oversimplifies the use of harnesses and cables.

Overall, it's important to remember that movies like Mission: Impossible are fictional and may not always accurately depict scientific concepts. While they can be entertaining
