Need help simplifying expression

In summary, an expression is a mathematical phrase that combines numbers, variables, and operations. Simplifying expressions allows for easier manipulation and understanding of equations, and can also help in solving more complex problems. To simplify an expression, the order of operations (PEMDAS) is used, along with combining like terms and using properties of operations. However, not all expressions can be simplified, and common mistakes when simplifying include not following the order of operations and incorrectly combining like terms. It is important to double check your work and simplify step by step to avoid these errors.

The Attempt at a Solution

I'm attempting to solve a question with a few unknowns, and I managed to get it to the following form:

tanx(1-cosx)=0.25

I just can't seem to simplify it further and thus solve.. Any ideas?

It is more helpful if you post the entire original question and your work so far; otherwise we can't tell whether you've made a mistake in the work leading up to this point, or indeed whether you're expected to find an exact or merely approximate solution.

Ok.
Find theta.
2sintheta(75)(x-1.2)=45, where x=1.2costheta

sorry, x=1.2/costheta

1. What is an expression?

An expression is a mathematical phrase that combines numbers, variables, and operations. It does not contain an equal sign, and its value can be calculated by substituting values for the variables and performing the operations.

2. Why do we need to simplify expressions?

Simplifying expressions allows us to manipulate and understand mathematical equations more easily. It also helps to find equivalent expressions and to solve more complex problems.

3. How do we simplify expressions?

To simplify an expression, we use the order of operations (PEMDAS) to perform operations in the correct order. We also combine like terms and use properties of operations, such as the distributive property, to simplify the expression.

4. Can all expressions be simplified?

No, not all expressions can be simplified. Some expressions are already in their simplest form, and others may require advanced techniques or cannot be simplified at all.

5. What are some common mistakes when simplifying expressions?

Some common mistakes include not following the order of operations, forgetting to distribute a negative sign, and incorrectly combining like terms. It is important to check your work and simplify step by step to avoid these errors.
