Optimizing Math Text on Amazon Kindle: Compatibility and Legibility

AI Thread Summary
Amazon Kindle devices handle math text from lecture notes and textbooks primarily in PDF format, with varying capabilities depending on the model. Earlier Kindle versions required conversion for optimal display, while newer models can display PDFs directly. However, even when PDFs are displayed correctly, the text may appear too small, necessitating a 90-degree rotation for better readability, which can complicate the reading experience. There is an increasing availability of textbooks in native Kindle format, which are generally easier to read compared to PDFs.

If anyone has an amazon kindle, how does it handle math text, say from lecture notes. I've been told that you need to convert it from pdf. Does anyone know how it looks after it has been converted? Is it legible? What about textbooks that are in pdf format?

From what I know it depends on the Kindle version - earlier models needed pdf converter. The one I bought few weeks ago displays pdfs without a need for conversion, and displays them correctly (at least those I checked - including textbooks and papers with some math formulas). But reading pdfs is a PITA - while they are displayed correctly, they are displayed too small, so you have to rotate them 90 deg to make them more readable, which in turn makes reading clumsy. Judging from the Amazon store there are more and more textbooks sold in Kindle format, these should be much easier to read.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
