SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on simulating a power system that includes conventional generators, loads, and wind farms, with an emphasis on measuring system frequency and voltage. The user seeks guidance on using MATLAB and PowerWorld for this simulation. Professionals recommend tools such as Siemens PSS®E and NEPLAN for comprehensive power system analysis, although access to necessary grid data may be restricted due to security concerns. Generic test systems can be found at the University of Washington's PSTCA website for initial experimentation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of power system components such as generators and loads
  • Familiarity with MATLAB for simulation purposes
  • Knowledge of power system analysis tools like PowerWorld
  • Awareness of grid data requirements and security implications
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore Siemens PSS®E for advanced power system simulations
  • Investigate NEPLAN for detailed power system analysis
  • Learn how to use MATLAB for power system frequency and voltage simulations
  • Access generic test systems from the University of Washington's PSTCA for practice
USEFUL FOR

Electrical engineers, power system analysts, and researchers interested in simulating and analyzing power systems, particularly those involving renewable energy sources like wind farms.

Hello.

I need to simulate a power system including conventional generators, loads and wind farm. I want to measure system frequency and voltage esspecially. According to these values for any kind unwanted of voltage and frequency changes circuit breaker should be opened and wind farm will be disconnected from the grid.

But I could not find a kind of simulation program or I do not know how to do it with MATLAB and PowerWorld.

How can I simulate the system? Which program should I use?

Here are a couple that the professionals use. But that may not help. To use these programs you need lots of data for the topology and parameters of the grid in your area. All that data used to be open, but after 911 it is secret to prevent terrorists from using iT.

But you can go here to find some generic test systems
