I remember watching Clint Eastwood's movie Firefox in which while flying a fighter aircraft he was dictating himself almost everything which he was doing doing, seeing, etc. What was the purpose of this audible monologue of Eastwood's character to himself? Perhaps, in general pilots do this so that everything going on while flying get recorded in black box. What is your opinion on this?

I have not seen the movie, but I happened to be in that profession and yes it makes sense. We were used to calling out all axions and decisions loudly to be registrated on the VCR tape for debriefing/evaluating purposes

Is it hard to get out of that habit, like if you're driving? Nice way to make your passengers crazy haha .

Good question,

I guess we learned to flip switches during the preflight check:

Emotions - Off
Worries - Off
Fears - Off
Thinking Out Loud - On
Fun - on

Obviously all was reversed in the post flight check.

And yes I remember interesting conversations with passengers during such trips.
