While I like dogs the only experience I've had with what I assume is in the pic was not a good experience. If those packages disappeared I'd blame the dog. ;)

This week in pics.

We start out at the usual place I've been going every week. As usual, I'm only sharing the relatively nondescript images from these weekly occasions.

So now we move on to a friend's going away party during the weekend. Someone brought a puppy, so of course I insisted on taking a photo.

After the party I took the bus home. Well, not quite. I missed the last bus at my transfer point. So I decided to walk the rest of the way.

When I got back to my own neighborhood (see Fig. 15), I passed a family of neighbors out with their adorable, yet thirsty puppy. I was pretty thirsty myself after hiking up that canyon (I'm still out of shape). I decided against waiting to drink the puppy's leftovers (I've had worse), and instead continued a few doors down to the neighborhood pub.

Time to scare @Andy Resnick with some lens servicing photos...

Servicing a lens in bed while listening to Neil DeGrasse Tyson:

(The lens that was serviced was the vintage Soviet* Industar-26m 50mm f/2.8, which had a lot of old, sticky grease on the focusing helicoid. Now it is clean and newly lubricated, which is nice.)

Opening a vintage Tokina 35mm f/2.8 outdoors:

* PS. The Soviet lenses I've got are comparatively easy to service; they tend to be mechanically quite simple.

I saw this in a downtown community bulletin board today (small community in the Santa Cruz mountains). What is wrong with this picture, and what is especially funny/ironic?

I look at pictures of the Artemis II launch taken up close, like this one:

and I'm amazed by how much energy and resources have to be spent to lift that huge piece of machinery in the air.

And then I see this other picture from @BillTre 's post and realize that, in the greater scheme of things, it is basically like a flea jumping off a dog ... at best.

No it isn't. That looks like a launch from complex 40 (Falcon 9) not 39B, but in any case that picture is quoted in a post by Chris Hadfield from 2024.
