Ok, this is not a real photo but I just had to post it here...

Today a friend of mine who has been training his AI software to generate more realistic images sent
me an image. I was very, very impressed....:

SF Girl (y620).png

(image posted here with permission from my friend)

He said that training and rendering with the software is like dealing with an unruly camera...
...he also said he was complaining a lot over all previous unsuccessful attempts .

But the work definitely paid off. I guess he will continue to finetune the software for realism.

I particularly like the sixth (last) image here.
I find there is a bit of a strange thing with "clutter" in photos. One, often good rule, is to minimize the clutter in photos. But then there seems to be a soft limit somewhere when the clutter gets so significant that it suddenly becomes very interesting and central to the photo, like in your last photo.

I think most interesting clutter has an order to it which is seen in its order.
In this case, its (mostly) the electrical infrastructure made to provide electricity.
The purpose structures the outcome.

  • #1,254
Here is a cluttery infrastructure example, looking up from the inside of a giant hedge in the LA area.
Its at least 20 feet wide and 30 feet tall.
The leaves are on the outside, its too shady for them inside the hedge where the picture was taken from.
The stems and branches connect the leaves and roots in a manner determined by their earlier patterns of growth, their opportunistic interactions with their environment, minus negative environmental impacts (like predators or storm damage).

Screenshot 2023-07-01 at 2.00.19 PM.png
Here is an interesting one:

Roots growing where there was a substrate (a decaying log) which is now gone:

super-small non-log.jpg
Here is some depositional clutter (logs no longer moving in the river flow):

Taking the advice of @DaveC426913 I have made an attempt to make use of the subject matter. Another disappointing weekend of lack of opportunity, glare, rain, mist and clumsy technique in Chester and Carlisle (bar a convenient castle) so I am trying closer to home. Manchester. The jewel of North West of England and quite possibly the world.

Shambles square.

And behind me under the bridge is where the 1996 bomb went off. If you zoom in on the middle right the red post box was the only thing intact.

When you attach an image file, you have the choice to insert it as a thumbnail or full image. After you attach the file, hover your mouse over the upper left of the thumbnail that is shown, and selece Full Image. I don't know how it works on a phone.

Alternatively, after you have posted and notice it's shown as a thumbnail, Edit your post and do the hover thing to change it to Full Image.

Thanks, I'm on a pad no mouse but I'll try your suggestions looking at file type.

rain, mist
A vital ingredient of British weather  (it's basically the same here in Sweden).

Even though I very much prefer sunny weather when taking photos (because of the color opportunities), I've started to enjoy taking photos in rain. And mist can also be very cool; in e.g. the evening/at night you can for instance play with how various lights get affected by the mist.

And there are various opportunities with rainy weather. For instance, one can try to capture how it feels when it's raining, which can be an interesting challenge. Also, rainwater on flat ground and other surfaces can provide very interesting light reflection opportunities.

Here's one such photo I shot two years ago, a stitched ultrawide shot of an opera house:
(sadly, the resizing here of this wide shot makes it quite unsharp here for some reason, the original is much, much sharper, but you get the idea with light reflections on the flat ground)

@pinball1970 and @Astranut (and others who may be interested):

Yesterday I reproduced some old photos of historical sites on the British Isles (Scotland & Orkney).
Rather than doing two long posts in this thread, I decided to put them in a separate thread in the Art, Music, History, and Linguistics forum here: British Isles - a piece of visual history.

Part of my family did get rich on South Dakota Black Hills gold. Unfortunately, it wasn't my side of the family. My side owned mostly cattle ranches on the flatlands. However that made for great vacations - horses, guns, dirt bikes, tractors, and trucks...at age 12 and up.

Happy July!

Here's a gorgeous flower I've seen a couple of times, and this time I shot it.
I just love that the different petals are in different, distinct colors.
Google Pictures says it's some sort of Dahlia.

Not a great picture, not centred correctly, probably because I climbed up the statute opposite to get a better scope. I'm not great with heights.
I spent many an hour here in the 80s, central library, Manchester.

That Dahlia photo got my wife's attention (she is into colored-pencil artwork and wants to try sketching it).

After a bit of on-line research she came up with:
Sorry, no URL; she is on a tablet and can't display such 'unimportant' things! It was found thru a Google search for Dahlia Mary Eveline. The following came up when she clicked on one of the first few sponsored advertising images.

Call name: Dahlia Anemone Mary Eveline (some American sites use Evelyn)
(Scientific)
Name: Dahlia
Species: Dahlia
Genus: Dahlia
Family: Asteraceae
Order: Asterales
Hardiness: Zones 8-11
Duration: Perennial
Sun exposure: Full Shade
Soil: Loam, Sand, Clay
Soil PH: 6.1-7.5
