I find the clear transitions between linear and curvilinear dedritic growth fascinating- all I know about dendrites is what I followed of
Martin Glicksman's spaceflight experiments using succinonitrile, and I don't recall ever seeing curved dendrites.

Getting the images to look like what I was seeing with my eyes was more difficult than expected. Because the highlights (sunstars) aren't properly captured by the built-in exposure meter, initially the images were really overexposed. I had to adjust the EV (exposure compensation setting) to 'expose for the highlights'. Stopping down the (6-sided) aperture to f/16 creates all the sunstars.
(FWIW, the specific value was (IIRC) +3.7, but that number needs a LOT of context. To put that specific number for my specific lens in context, when set EV +3.7 at f/16, I was decreasing the exposure meter by 3 stops)
The middle image shows a lot of cool (to me) optical effects: Along the left edge is a column of out-of-focus aperture stops. Flanking the middle icicle are columns of spots created by (partial) reflections of the sunstars off of an intervening glass pane, and the intensity has been decreased enough so to see an optical effect of dispersion (rainbows).
