Nice! Is that near Clingman's dome? We were there (and Asheville) a few months prior to Hurricane Helene; how does everything look now?

The turnoff to Kuwohi (formerly Clingman's Dome) is a short distance ahead down the road. You can zoom in on the directional sign at the right side of the photo. I didn't go there for lack of time, and because I'd been there already some years ago.

The park looked OK to me, at least along US-441. The NPS has surely done a lot of cleanup work along there. Also, there are still a lot of fallen trees etc. throughout the region. I've gotten accustomed to them so they don't register with me unless they're huge or there's a large cluster of them.

On the way up to Knoxville I made a point of driving along the river through Asheville, through the River Arts corridor. There are many empty lots, foundations of buildings that were washed away, and some badly damaged buildings that haven't been torn down or repaired yet. The ritzy Biltmore Village neighborhood seems to be mostly up and running, though.

Working on some firmware for a Solar data collection system. It used a 8-bit controller to collect data from a energy meter and solar charging data. One of my retirement projects to keep busy.

We had a snow storm with strong winds last weekend. The wind lined up perfectly with this cottage to snow in the front door and make a big snowdrift on the road. The plow pile from that snowdrift is right on their driveway. A town plow got stuck near my house. Cell phone camera, slightly cropped.

I've now taken over 10,000 photos on my rangefinder camera (other cameras are not included in the count).

Here's a couple of pictures toward the tail-end of the 10,000 image count (not exactly at the very end, but pretty close):

The reason I find snapping 10,000 photos is of interest is because of a quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson (see below). Bresson is often thought of as the father of street photography (some have said father of photojournalism). He is known for popularizing the concept of the Decisive Moment in terms of photography.

One of his more famous pictures is below (See Fig. 3).

So anyway, one of his more famous quotes is "Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst."

My rangefinder camera in question is digital, so no. I can snap off pictures all day without worrying about the cost and bulk of film. Bresson's photographs were undoubtedly more carefully considered than what I've been doing lately.

'Still a milestone though.

(And I did grow up on film. So there's that.)

From a dash cam video taken 3/22/2023. I was dodging a flock of turkeys on the shoulder of the road, and one decided to fly up in front of me. The three photos are three consecutive frames at 30 frames per second. Close, but did not hit.

There is an interesting difference between perception and reality. My perception was that the turkey in the middle image filled a full half of the windshield, and came within a couple inches of the windshield. The reality is less impressive.

I used SMPlayer (https://www.smplayer.info/) to play this video mostly because it has good single frame capability. Single frame to a frame of interest, then screen grab using ALT-PRTSCN, paste into MS Paint, resize to 800 pixels horizontal, and save as JPEG.

Side benefits include ability to play many video formats plus it displays the actual time of each frame in milliseconds. The actual time is in seconds after the beginning of the clip, and is shown in the bottom right corner.
