SUMMARY

The discussion centers on a University of Minnesota student enrolled in "The Mathematics of Coding Theory" who seeks project ideas that connect robotics with coding theory. The project requires a final report of 10-20 pages, including a proof, computer-generated data, or a computer algorithm. The student expresses interest in laser detector pathfinding and seeks suggestions for formulating a research question. They also note the availability of numerous robotic algorithms found through a Google search for "algorithms for robots."

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of coding theory principles
  • Familiarity with robotics concepts, particularly pathfinding algorithms
  • Knowledge of algorithm design and analysis
  • Experience with data generation and computational proofs
NEXT STEPS
  • Research laser detector pathfinding algorithms in robotics
  • Explore existing dissertations and papers on robotics and coding theory
  • Learn about computational proofs relevant to algorithm validation
  • Investigate tools for generating computer-produced data in robotics
USEFUL FOR

Students in coding theory, robotics enthusiasts, and researchers looking to explore the intersection of robotics and mathematical algorithms.

Hello. I'm currently taking a class at the University of Minnesota, "The Mathematics of Coding Theory". In the class we have a final project on a topic of our choice that relates to the class. The guidelines are very broad and needs to only result in a final report of 10-20 pages answering a question we pick related to coding theory. In the end it must contain at least one of the following: a proof, a set of computer produced data, or a computer algorithm. I've decided I would like to do something related to robotics, but I'm having trouble deciding a exactly what kind of question I could come up with to answer. In particular, laser detector path finding would be of interest to me. Anyone have any suggestions how I could turn this into a question to answer in my project? Thanks.

I have found an interesting dissertation, but in the wrong language. However, the results on Google make me think there are a lot of robotic related algorithms out there. E.g. I searched for "algorithms for robots".
