AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around confusion regarding the term "robots" as seen on the 'Current Visitors' page of the forum. Participants clarify that these "robots" are not physical entities but rather software programs, often referred to as web crawlers or bots, used by search engines like Google to index web content. The conversation highlights curiosity about the nature of these bots and their role in navigating online forums. Additionally, there is a side note about the original poster mistakenly posting in the wrong section and seeking guidance on how to move the thread to 'General Discussion,' with a suggestion to use the report button for assistance.

Not generally, on this forum i mean.
I was looking at the 'Current Visitors' page to see if I was on it, and I found a filter thingie which filters members and robots.
I'm super confused about these robots, are they actual made made type robots that can move and stuff and are huddled up in one large physicsforums.com HQ? or are they just little microcells on a part of a computer managing this forum? Are they a form of artificial intelligence? Has physicsforums.com really gotten this advanced? I guess this is what happens when you group a bunch of sciency people here. Anyways, I really need to know the answer. I'm curious about the type of robots that could have stumbled across my threads.

Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
