S5-HVS1: 10x Slower Relative Time?

In summary, the conversation discusses the travel time of S5-HVS1, a star that is moving 10 times faster than the rest of the stars in the Milky Way. This leads to a discussion about time dilation and the concept that both the star and the observer may perceive time as moving slower for the other. However, the actual amount of time dilation depends on the specific speed of the star, not just being 10 times faster.

TL;DR Summary
S5-HVS1 travel time
Summary: S5-HVS1 travel time

If S5-HVS1 is going 10 times faster than the rest of the stars of the milky way, does that mean that time is going slower than us?
How much slower is time going, 10 times?

We think it's time is going slower and it thinks our time is going slower. Time dilation is symmetrical.

How much slower? Hardly any at all, but it depends on the actual value of the speed, not "10 times faster". Star travel velocity is not locally relativistic in the reference frame of other stars.

FAQ: S5-HVS1: 10x Slower Relative Time?

1. What is S5-HVS1?

S5-HVS1 is a star that was recently discovered to be traveling at an extremely high velocity through the Milky Way galaxy. It is located in the constellation Grus and is estimated to be about 29,000 light years away from Earth.

2. How was S5-HVS1 discovered?

S5-HVS1 was discovered by a team of astronomers using data from the European Space Agency's Gaia satellite. They were able to identify the star's high velocity and trajectory, which led to its discovery.

3. Why is S5-HVS1 considered to be 10x slower relative to time?

S5-HVS1 is considered to be 10x slower relative to time because it is moving at a slower pace compared to other high-velocity stars. Its speed is estimated to be about 1.3 million miles per hour, which is still incredibly fast, but slower than other stars in its category.

4. What makes S5-HVS1 unique compared to other stars?

S5-HVS1 is unique because of its high velocity and trajectory. It is also one of the few stars that have been observed to be moving out of the Milky Way galaxy, instead of towards it. This makes it an important object for studying the dynamics of our galaxy.

5. What can we learn from studying S5-HVS1?

Studying S5-HVS1 can provide valuable insights into the formation and evolution of our galaxy. Its high velocity and unique trajectory can help us better understand the dynamics of the Milky Way and the role that high-velocity stars play in shaping its structure.
