AI Thread Summary
A Pakistani Muslim cleric has announced a reward exceeding $1 million for the assassination of Danish cartoonists responsible for caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. The cleric, Qureshi, drew a parallel between this bounty and the U.S. reward for Osama bin Laden, suggesting that both acts warrant similar responses. The discussion reflects a broader concern about the implications of such extreme measures and the potential for violence stemming from perceived offenses against religious beliefs. The conversation also touches on the frustrations regarding ongoing discussions about these issues, with some expressing a desire for more decisive action against what they view as extremist behavior.

"If the West can place a bounty on Osama bin Laden ... we can also announce reward for killing the man who has caused this sacrilege of the holy prophet," Qureshi told Reuters, referring to the $25 million U.S. bounty on the al-Qaida leader's head.

It would appear this Cleric believes that being directly responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent people and drawing a cartoon of a prophet are very similar offenses.

Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
