Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the manipulation of summation series, specifically whether certain changes to the series affect its validity. Participants explore the implications of modifying summation indices and limits, as well as seeking resources for improving their understanding of summation techniques.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions if changing the form of a summation affects its statement, seeking clarification on the implications of such changes.
  • Another participant asserts that the first change makes no difference but notes a potential issue with having the same index value twice.
  • A participant expresses a desire to improve their skills in summation and asks for resources or tips.
  • Further inquiries are made about the implications of multiplying terms within the series and whether this alters the argument of the series.
  • Another participant raises a concern about changing limits in summation, emphasizing the need for consistent changes to the summation index.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the effects of changing summation indices and limits, with multiple viewpoints and questions remaining unresolved.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions regarding convergence are mentioned, but the discussion does not clarify the conditions under which these manipulations are valid. There is also a lack of detail on the specific series being discussed.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be useful for students or individuals seeking to understand the nuances of summation in mathematical contexts, particularly those looking for clarification on series manipulation and resources for further learning.

Hello
i want to know if we have a series with this equation
gif.gif

and change it to this form

the statement in Summation change or not?(

this changes it right?

where can i find the Summation notes?

(Assuming convergence) The first change makes no difference. The second change, you have n=0 twice.

Thanks mathman
could you tell me how can i improve myself Summation? where can i find the Summation tips?

Start here. Also google "summation".

Thanks mathman
i have another questions

you assume that series is:

can i multiple (-) (t and 0) ?

if yes what about argument (it changed?)?

what about this series ?

this changes is it right?

I don't understand what you are trying to do. If you change the limits the summation index must be changed in a consistent manner.
