Spiritual Interface: Right Temporal Lobe & Limbic Structures | MD Melvin Morse

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a Google search for information on ocean plastic pollution that unexpectedly led to a link discussing the right temporal lobe's role in religious experiences. The author expresses skepticism about the credibility of the findings presented by Melvin Morse, M.D., who argues that neurological connections to religious experiences do not diminish their spiritual significance. The conversation highlights the intersection of neuroscience and spirituality, questioning whether experiences perceived as external are merely brain-based phenomena. The humorous aspect noted is the irony of the search results leading to a seemingly unrelated topic, prompting reflections on the nature of perception and reality.

I googled for ocean, plastic, pollution, "Discovery Times", to find something that I saw last night and instead got this...what a coincidence. I assume that this is some crackpot but all considered it seemed worth a post.

THE RIGHT TEMPORAL LOBE AND ASSOCIATED LIMBIC LOBE STRUCTURES AS THE BIOLOGICAL INTERFACE WITH AN INTERCONNECTED UNIVERSE

ABSTRACT:

Deep right temporal lobe and associated limbic lobe structures are clearly linked to human religious experiences of all types, including conversion experiences and near death experiences. Simply because religious experiences are brain based does not automatically lessen or demean their spiritual significance. Indeed, the findings of neurological substrates to religious experiences can be argued to provide evidence for their objective reality. [continued]

Note that you need to leave out the commas, but the really funny thing is that this link comes up as the only choice using the simple google search - true comedy in my eyes.

The occipital lobe is activated when we are looking at something. Does this mean that what is see is only in our head?

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
