SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the efficacy of stainless steel odor-removal bars, specifically the Rub-Away Odor Bar. Participants debate whether these bars effectively eliminate food odors from hands, particularly garlic and onion smells. While some users report positive experiences, attributing odor removal to the metal's catalytic properties, others question the scientific basis and suggest that any stainless steel object, including sinks, would yield similar results. The consensus leans towards the need for controlled experiments to validate claims regarding the product's effectiveness.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of stainless steel properties and composition (Fe, Cr, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of chemical reactions, particularly catalytic processes
  • Familiarity with odor removal techniques and common household items
  • Experience with conducting simple scientific experiments and controls
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the chemical properties of stainless steel and its role in odor removal.
  • Learn about the scientific method and how to design controlled experiments.
  • Investigate alternative odor removal methods, such as baking soda and vinegar.
  • Explore user reviews and studies on the effectiveness of stainless steel soap bars.

I will be taking this on as a side project as Christmas break is coming up and I will need something to do! (plus lots of family to do the tests on!)

I'll be interested to hear what you come up with, MotoH.

It's now become my habit that, after rinsing my hands under cool water while preparing vegetables, I rub my hands on the side of the sink. I love that freshness. It's not an odour remover, because the odour is gone with just cool water, but the combination of cool water and stainless steel on your hands is intriguing. Has anyone else tried it? Am I imagining things?
