Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the classification of steel C1040, specifically the meanings of the components C, 10, and 40, as well as the common types of steel used in the manufacturing of LPG cylinders. The conversation includes inquiries about classification systems and additional resources for understanding steel grades.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Exploratory

Main Points Raised

  • Participants seek clarification on the meaning of C, 10, and 40 in the designation of steel C1040.
  • Some participants suggest that a classification table from a textbook or the AISI/SAE classification schedule could provide answers.
  • One participant expresses a lack of access to a textbook and seeks information online.
  • Another participant recommends Wikipedia as a resource for understanding SAE steel grades.
  • Several links to external resources and articles on steel classification are provided by participants.
  • A participant asks about the specific type of steel used in LPG cylinder manufacturing, indicating interest in the relationship between C1040 and LPG cylinder materials.
  • A question is raised about the beading process in manufacturing or metalworks, indicating a broader interest in metalworking techniques.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not reach a consensus on the meanings of C, 10, and 40 in steel C1040 or the specific types of steel used in LPG cylinders, as participants are still seeking information and clarification.

Contextual Notes

Participants reference various classification systems and external resources, but there is no agreement on the definitions or classifications discussed. The conversation remains exploratory without definitive conclusions.

Doesn't one's textbook have a classification table?

One could look for the AISI/SAE classification schedule.

I don't have a textbook. So I'm looking on the internet. I just want to know what is C, 10, and 40 on the steel given.

try wikipedia.org under "SAE steel grades" I think that answers your question well. (You could have thought of that yourself, but it interested me too. Thanks)

thanks for the information. About my second question, what steel is used in manufacturing LPG cylinder? Like the steel C1040.
By the way, what is beading process in manufacturing or metalworks?
