The Method of Joints (support reactions)

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on the method of joints for analyzing force members in a truss, specifically regarding support reactions. The user initially seeks clarification on whether to include Force Dx when calculating the moment around support reaction E. Additionally, there is a question about the presence of a force in the Ex direction when determining forces in the X direction. Ultimately, the user resolves their confusion independently. The thread highlights common challenges faced when applying the method of joints in structural analysis.

So, I have a question regarding the method of joints used to solve force members in a truss. I am just starting the question and I am stuck on determining the moment in the support reactions.

So my questions are:

(1) For the moment around support reaction E do I include Force Dx in my equation?
So, [+Dx * 5]

(2) When finding the forces in the X direction is there a force in the Ex direction?

Thank you.
