AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around identifying the top posters in a forum, with russ_waters currently holding the highest post count at 5,098. Participants clarify that post counts may not accurately reflect the time spent on the forum, as some members contribute infrequently while others may read extensively without posting. The conversation touches on the impact of forum upgrades that reset post counts, leading to discrepancies in historical data. Notably, Zero is mentioned as a former top poster from an earlier version of the forum, and there is a desire for a feature that displays top posters. The dialogue also includes light-hearted banter about posting habits and the nature of contributions, particularly in relation to different forum sections.

C'est moi.

Do you mean total number of posts, frequency of posts, or are you asking people to name their favorites?

russ_waters has the highest post count right now.

Is this a contest now?

No-- but I was just wondering
Posts generally indicate who has been along the longest.

It is not very obvious ! It depends on the length and quality of the posts. I do not spend very much time writing my posts :shy:

actually, the join date is usually a better indicator  .

I think he meant actual time. Do you spend all your time here :

I spend all my time here. I'm a loser

Yes I meant like time spent here

I will concede my mistake
I have spent around 70 hrs here in the last week

I've been here since July 2003, but I don't have that many posts compared to some other people that joined this year.

Number of posts may not indicate the amount of time spent here. I'm sure that some people read threads but rarely choose to reply.

Some days I may make five posts - links to news stories - in five minutes. I clearly spend a lot of time at PF, but my post count is very unrespresentive of time spent as compared to the average poster, I would think.

Yes its a shame that you don't spend more time at porno sites and the like.

When talking about post counts one needs to realize that PF has gone through a couple of major upgrades since its inception. Earlier post counts did not carry over from previous versions, so with each upgrade everyone started over with a zero post count.

ouch that would suck, anyway anyone take to the idea of having something that can show the posts of all the users?

The top 15

Code:
russ_waters 5,098
marcus 4,134
chroot 4,010
Ivan Seeking 3,839
Zero 3,818
selfAdjoint 3,658
Mentat 3,406
Hurkyl 2,875
HallsofIvy 2,770
Nereid 2,637
Monique 2,424
FZ+ 2,336
matt grime 2,231
Iacchus32 2,148
Tom Mattson 2,108

Of those, only Nereid (9-19-03), Ivan Seeking(4-30-03), and matt grime(1-13-04) weren't here for the changeover to PF3.0 which occurred ca. 3-16-03.

Now, don't ask me how I did that (its a secret).

I think the all time highest poster, taking the old versions into account would be Zero. He had several thousand posts from PF2.0. If he still posted here, he'd probably be the top poster still.

We also had several others in the multi-K club from 2.0. Ssivakami is one who comes to mind, although she doesn't spend much time here anymore.

While Mentat was posting heavily, he even led Zero. Unfortunately, Mentat and Gale17...oh, never mind.

Mentors and admins have a LOT of tools available to us that normal members can't see. It's one of the perks.

Can you allow normal members to have that feature
or
make me a mentor lol

There actually used to be a "top posters" button somewhere on the front page, but apparently it has been disabled. I will see if I can figure out where it went.

I used to have a helacious amount of posts, of course they were all in General Discussion and for the most part they consisted only of either a)degrading jimmy p or b) hitting on Monique or Evo. So my post count never went above 9.

The upgrades also reset the "join date". I joined around Jan 2001.

The secret of my success: posts in GD are not counted, but posts in Politics, a sub-forum of GD, are.
