Triple Integral Homework: Negative & Positive Answers?

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around evaluating a triple integral, with participants questioning the signs of the results obtained for two parts of the problem. The subject area includes calculus and integral evaluation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Conceptual clarification

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the implications of splitting the integral based on the sign of x and discuss the relationship between the two parts. There are questions about the correctness of the signs of the answers for each part, with some suggesting the use of symmetry.

Discussion Status

The discussion is active, with participants sharing their interpretations and questioning the results. Some guidance has been offered regarding the use of symmetry, but there is no explicit consensus on the correctness of the answers provided.

Contextual Notes

Participants are working under the constraints of a homework assignment, which may limit the information they can share or the methods they can use to solve the problem.

Regarding (b): What happens when you split the integral into the part where x>0 and the part where x<0, how are they related?

(a) is pretty simple isn't it? z\le 1 so z^2- zis what?

For (b) use "symmetry" as yyat suggests.

so a is negative and b is 0?
