Pretty much anywhere the air flows...or oil flows...or coolant flows...

You would be better off to ask "where is it practical to use CFD in compressor design?" In that case I would say dealing with any part of the compressor scroll or diffuser or any place where the precise flow description is required for proper performance analysis.
 
What type of air compressor? Axial, centrifugal, integrally geared, screw, reciprocating, single or multi-stage?
