AI Thread Summary
Foot and leg cramps at night are a common concern among forum participants, with many sharing personal experiences and remedies. Walking for a few minutes is frequently mentioned as an effective way to alleviate cramps. Several users recommend preventive measures such as soaking feet in hot water, stretching before bed, and massaging legs. Nutritional advice includes increasing potassium intake through foods like bananas and potatoes, as well as staying hydrated with water. Some participants suggest that low potassium levels could be a factor and recommend checking blood levels if cramps persist. The discussion also touches on the importance of overall nutrition, including the benefits of a balanced diet rich in vegetables and possibly vitamin D for muscle function.

I hate leg cramps in bed! so painful! I soak my feet every night in hot water before I sleep :) I hardly ever get leg cramps, so comfy! I also stretch before I sleep... and do leg massage... to reduce veins... don't know if its working... hate seeing veins in my legs! and sometimes headstands... to get blood back to my upper half...

From the Cramp wiki:

"Common causes of skeletal muscle cramps include muscle fatigue, low sodium, and low potassium. Smooth muscle cramps may be due to menstruation or gastroenteritis."

It's at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cramp

I've been known to get them, though it's relatively rare. Really hurts, doesn't it?

I sometimes get cramps but I don't suffer from muscle fatigue low sodium, low potassium or gastroenteritis. How odd!:bugeye::smile:

Hey, you are a young kid, you should not suffer from such things.

Eat more bananas. Drink more water.

If those fail, then seek alternatives

For a second I thought I was on the woman's forum.
Yes wolfram, I get them for years now too and they are horrid painful. I suggest wearing legwarmers. That's that I do.. good luck.

You don't have to be old like me to have cramps. For years as my daughter was growing up and involved with martial arts, I had to rub cramps out of her calves at night.

I used to get some that were like root canals. They were very frequent. Increasing your water and potassium should help. I get a big cup of orange juice every morning and water (not coffee or soda) throughout the day. I haven't had much problem with them after that.

You might want to have your blood checked, I have extremely low potassium levels and have to take a potassium supplement.

Eat a banana each day; raise your potassium level.

Just because you can't find it doesn't mean it's imaginary.

nonsense. i got them all the time when i was young, hardly ever now. but i was a lot more active then and had not a clue about nutrition.

the banana and potatoes suggestions are great. in general, though, just eat more veggies. the DASH diet is good for a lot more than your leg cramps. milk is good stuff too, and if you're one of those sunlight-deprived upper brits, consider that vit. D improves muscle function as well.

Damn, throw away the fruit and veggies, a pork chop contains 2,347mg of potassium!

I get muscle cramps so bad, that the muscle may hurt for days afterward.
